The Stakes

The Cost of
Staying Stuck

When anxiety, overthinking, depression, or emotional pain start running the show, your world shrinks.

You stop showing up the way you want to, for your relationships, your career, and your health. You might start avoiding things you used to love, second-guessing everything you do, or feeling like you’re living someone else’s life.

The longer this goes on, the more disconnected you feel from your own inner compass.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you start feeling like yourself again. It’s not just about insight. It’s about learning how to change the patterns that are keeping you stuck and finding new ways to move through the world.

At Uptown Psychology, we specialize in helping motivated but overwhelmed individuals get back in the driver’s seat with support that’s grounded, actionable, and deeply personal.

The Modality

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented therapy that helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT focuses on identifying and shifting unhelpful thoughts that contribute to emotional distress and problematic behaviors.
In CBT, we work together to:
Unlike more open-ended forms of talk therapy, CBT is present-focused, collaborative and encourages you to take action. You’ll learn strategies you can practice both in and out of session so change becomes something you can feel and live.

What CBT Can Help

Clients come to us when they’re feeling overwhelmed, emotionally dysregulated, or unsure how to break patterns they’ve lived with for years. You don’t have to “have it all together” to benefit from CBT.

Why Work with Uptown Psychology for CBT

You don’t want generic therapy. And neither do we. CBT is powerful but when done rigidly, it can feel cold or one-size-fits-all. That’s not how we do things.

At Uptown Psychology, we blend structure with your individual experience. Yes, we use the proven frameworks of CBT. But we also know when to slow down, validate your emotions, draw from other modalities like DBT, and meet you exactly where you are.

What sets us apart?
This isn’t a one-way street. We’re collaborators, not directors. And we tailor your CBT journey to reflect your specific needs, values, and strengths.

Our Approach

The CBT Process

Free 15-Minute
Consultation

We’ll chat about what’s bringing you in, explain how CBT works, and match you with the best-fit provider based on your needs, availability, and budget.

Comprehensive Intake
(90 Minutes)

We’ll explore your story in depth. We’ll look at what’s happening now, what’s been going on historically, and what you want to change. Together, we’ll co-create your goals for therapy.

Weekly Sessions
(45 Minutes)

Each session includes psychoeducation, skill-building, and guided reflection. We’ll assign meaningful between-session practice to reinforce what you’re learning and keep things moving forward.

Our approach is grounded in evidence, but it’s also flexible. If life throws you a curveball (breakup, bad news, rough
day), we’ll be there, CBT tools in hand, to help you process and regroup.

CBT isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about real change.
