Uptown Psychology
Child Therapy in New York City
Evidence-based therapy for kids on the Upper East Side, with parents as real partners in the work.
The Benefits
The Benefits of
Child Therapy

Real skills,
not just talk
Kids learn specific skills for worry, anger, and big feelings, then practice them at home and school with your help.

Parents as
partners
Parents get regular check-ins and coaching, so what happens in session carries over into the rest of the week.

Built for
kids
Play, games, and age-appropriate activities help younger children feel at ease and engaged.
The Stakes
When Worry and Big Feelings Take Over
Bedtime takes an hour. Mornings end in tears. A teacher calls about a child who freezes, melts down, or will not go in. Many parents wait, hoping it is a phase, but anxiety and emotional struggles in childhood tend to grow when they are worked around instead of worked on. The good news is that children respond quickly to the right approach, especially when parents are involved.

What We Treat
Common Reasons Families
Reach Out

Anxiety and worry
Anxiety is the most common reason children come to us. With CBT, kids learn to notice worry, question it, and take small brave steps, while parents learn how to respond in ways that build confidence instead of avoidance.
Big emotions and behavior
When meltdowns and power struggles are running the household, we work with both child and parent. Parent-focused approaches such as PCIT and SPACE are often the fastest way to calmer days.
School refusal
Stomachaches on Sunday night, battles every morning, calls from school. School refusal is usually driven by anxiety, and a clear, gradual plan built with you and the school can get a child back in the classroom.
Executive function and ADHD
Several of our clinicians began their careers as teachers, so we understand learning differences and executive function challenges from the classroom side. We help kids build routines and systems that make school and home easier. See our executive functioning intensives.

Questions About Child Therapy in NYC
What ages do you work with?
We work with young children, school-age kids, and teens. For younger children, much of the work happens through parents, using approaches like SPACE.
Will I be involved?
Yes. Parent involvement is one of the strongest predictors of progress in child therapy, so we check in with you regularly and coach you on how to help at home.
Do you offer virtual sessions for kids?
Yes. We see children in person at 766 Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side and virtually across New York. Virtual sessions work well for many kids, especially for parent coaching.
Do you accept insurance?
No, we do not accept insurance. Monthly superbills are available, which you can submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
How long does child therapy take?
Evidence-based child therapy is goal-focused rather than open-ended. Many families see meaningful progress within a few months, and we review progress with you regularly.
