The Stakes

When Your Teen Seems Stuck

Maybe it is the late nights and the dread before tests. Maybe it is the friend group that fell apart, the grades that slipped, or the perfect report card that comes with panic attacks. Teens in New York face a lot of pressure, and many hide how hard things have gotten. Persistent anxiety, withdrawal, and low mood are worth taking seriously, and they respond well to the right kind of help.

What Brings Teens
to Therapy

Tests, college planning, social media, and packed schedules can stack up fast. CBT helps teens spot anxious thinking early, test it against the facts, and stop avoiding what matters.

When a teen pulls away and nothing feels worth doing, we focus on re-engagement: small steps, behavioral activation, and work on the thoughts that keep them stuck, with parents involved as needed.

High achievers often look fine from the outside while running on fear of failure. We help teens keep their drive and drop the harsh self-criticism. Read more about therapy for perfectionism.

Missed assignments, last-minute cramming, and lost track of deadlines are common, especially with ADHD. Executive function support is a specialty of our practice, and we build systems teens keep using. See our executive functioning intensives.

Questions About Teen Therapy in NYC

That is very common. First sessions with skeptical teens are low pressure and practical, and many change their minds after meeting their therapist. If a teen will not engage, parent-focused strategies can still help.

Teens need confidentiality for therapy to work, and parents need to know about safety concerns and overall progress. We set these expectations clearly with both of you at the start.

Both work. Some teens open up more easily from home, others do better in the office. We offer in-person sessions on the Upper East Side and virtual sessions across New York.

No, we do not accept insurance. Monthly superbills are available, which you can submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

If we think your teen needs a higher level of care, testing, or a medication consultation, we will tell you directly and help coordinate the referral.
